Despite a popular myth, it is not always possible to find someone, “if you know where to look.” That’s why the FBI has a Most Wanted List. Equally as important, we must consider your time and money constraints. As well, we must consider three possible reasons for the person’s absence:
You haven’t heard from him in months, so you assume he has moved. We could probably find him within a few days. (Sometimes the party has not only not moved away, but is still living at the “prior” address, with a different telephone and telephone number.) OR
He moved away a few days ago. We may want to wait a few weeks until he establishes a paper trail. We use paper trails, as well as other sources, to start searching for a person.
In any event, the results of the trace will include, wherever available: current address; verification of date of birth and social security number; telephone number; identification of basic assets.* OR
He’s a liar, a cheat, and a thief. He knows how to escape and evade execution of a judgment. He knows how to use the system to steal from people. He has run up thousands of dollars of debt, has several judgments against him, and understands that a moving target is hard to locate. This is not going to be a simple skip trace. It may involve weeks of research, requiring a retainer fee of at least $1,500. Here is where you do a benefit/cost analysis. We would discuss with you the feasibility of continuing the search, or deferring.
Here's an explanation of this policy: If we have not found someone within about three weeks, this means the person is actively hiding. We would have no financial incentive to keep a case "on the shelf", and continue searching. If you wanted to continue, we would have to discuss appropriate agreements and fees.
We can trace by SSN, provided you give it to us. Or we can look it up, but be aware that we are not permitted to give you a social security number that we have recovered.
